Shopping with Bitcoin

Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies may currently be mostly used for investment purposes, but they can also be used to buy services and goods. Many companies want to attract more customers through innovative measures. One of these measures is allowing customers to pay with their favorite cryptocurrencies. Services like Bitpay, Coinbase, and Shopify have made it very easy for online-retailers to adopt this new payment method.

The most notable example of retail adoption is the e-commerce store Overstock, which is currently experimenting with various cryptocurrencies and blockchain technologies. Nevertheless, not all online platforms are happy with cryptocurrency payments. Recently, the online gaming platform giant Steam announced that it would stop accepting Bitcoin as payment method due to high price volatility and transaction fees. But cryptocurrencies users aren’t limited to spending their coins on video games and furniture. Services like Expedia and Cheapair allow customers to book flights, hotels, and even rent cars with Bitcoin.

For cryptocurrency users that do not like commercial flights, there is now a new option that allows them to book their own private jet flights. According to BusinessInsider and FlyingMag, a Silicon Valley-based private jet airline called Surf Air has announced that it will start accepting Bitcoin and Ethereum for its services.

Simon Talling-Smith, the CEO of Surf Air Europe stated following regarding the new announcement:

Surf Air was built on the idea of disrupting and changing the way the world sources, purchases and accesses air travel so it only makes sense that we would be on the cutting edge of accepting new forms of payment such as bitcoin and ethereum.

He also added:

This comes ahead of our inaugural flight from London City Airport that will transform the business travel experience for our European membership base.

As the price of Bitcoin and Ethereum is steadily rising, perhaps more and more cryptocurrency users will be able to afford the services that Surf Air is offering.

What are your thoughts on Surf Air’s decision to accept Bitcoin and Ethereum payments? Do you think that in the future more airlines will start accepting cryptocurrencies as a payment form? Let us know in the comments below!
